And yet it seems the global design community is far from throwing in the towel.

I want to introduce 15 ideas which have grown very rapidly over the past year. These trends encompass web and graphics design techniques which will likely play a big role moving into 2012. You have probably seen a few of these represented throughout many of your favorite sites online.

Thankfully the methods to implement these features are becoming easier to understand and much slimmer in code.

Socializing with professionals is what I do which is how I met Judy Whale, the owner of All About You Video Products at a BNI Trade Show. I felt strong vibes of positivity around me when I met her and I instantly added her to my facebook network to stay in touch and learn more about her.

Her business is mainly about restoring precious treasures like old silent 8mm film, VHS tapes, 8mm tapes, old photos, etc. Basically in 1920s the idea of film was totally different, they used to have silent films for entertainment, no dialogues, no music and no colors.

Judy is a woman of the new era, confident, intelligent and always on her toes to take initiatives.

So many fascinating things about her forced me to meet her in person. And when she invited me to her studio where all the films and photos are processed, I instantly said yes. The other day i arrived her studio 5 minutes earlier than the given time because i was so excited about the whole thing. I was entertained by coffee and donuts, during the chit chat session I asked Judy if this was what she had dreamed of doing when she was young? With a smile she said that “Ayesha, I actually never really had a dream of what i wanted to do until about 10 years ago. I was busy earning a living, I have achieved far more than I ever expected. If you had told me 20 years ago that I would be at peace, enjoying my family and running my own business I would not have believed it!” With that she impressed me even more, such a hardworking woman she is.

Judy replied to a couple of my random questions and I learned that she owes her success to her family as they supported her and encouraged her a lot. She tries to spend more and more time with her family whenever she gets free time from work. But Judy says that she is caught up in her works much that hardly even notices the time when she’s in her studio.

I asked her what she likes to eat after a tiring day at the office and you wont believe it, the answer is frozen jello …. yes, frozen she says :)

Judy highlighted her future plans about her business. She is working on a personalized video for children so that they can watch themselves on tv and interact as they are learning, singing and moving! This video will be available soon. She is a beautiful human being, while talking to her I didnt realize the tikking of clock, I almost forgot that I had to leave for my office and lunch time was over. The meaning of failure for Judy? you can imagine that what possibly she would reply but let me quote here “A chance to try a different way!”

With an ending note and a promise from Judy that she will share her new project’s details with us I left her studio with the lesson that with strong will power and determination we can even reach the sky!

With over 8 million smartphone users in Canada and counting, it is high time that business owners have a mobile optimized website with full functionality in order to keep up within the competitive marketplace. These days more customers use mobile phones and tablets more than their computers at home which means that your business is missing out on numerous clients if you don’t already have a mobile optimized website.

Your website might look good with an appealing design and lots of well informed content but what do your potential customers see when they open this website on their mobile device? Is that font even legible when viewed on a smaller screen? Are your links reachable? You have to ask yourself all these questions and more to make sure that your website is optimized for mobile devices because you can’t make a sale if your customer can’t view your website.

Over 40% of all local searches are done on a smartphone, but the problem is 99% of websites are NOT ready to be viewed on a mobile device! The outstanding flash design you had your web designer do for you sadly don’t even show up on mobile devices. We will show you three easy tips to get you started.

3 Tips to Optimize your Website for Mobile Devices:

1. Make your website readable on a small screen, paying attention to font, sizes and images.
2. Reduce load times to make sure your website loads seamlessly even on slower mobile connections. This means getting rid of large hi-resolution images on your mobile website.
3. Incorporate automatic redirection to the mobile version of your website when a mobile user visits your website.

With these three important steps and the right mindset your business is on the way to open its doors to a whole other world of customers you never knew you had! Stay tuned as in our upcoming blogs we are going to we discuss how to implement all these points to your website.

Over the last few years or so, the importance of mobile websites has increased rapidly. With more and more mobile handsets becoming internet enabled, people who are more interested in using the internet expect to be able to use it on the go! The paradigm shift from desktop searches to mobile searches has finally happened and people use their mobile phones to not just communicate but also to shop, buy restaurant tickets, send flowers to their near and dear ones or book a table at restaurants! Still, there are some worries.

Unfortunately, all handsets are not compatible for all websites. Some websites are not most enjoyable to browse via mobile. If you are an owner of a business, small or large, you should look forward to creating or designing and developing an effective mobile website so that your target customers can easily access your products and services without any hassle, anytime, anywhere! Further, with a flawless web experience customers are bound to return to your mobile website again and again!

Particularly for small scale business, a mobile website is pretty effective and important not only for the business owners but also the customers. There are a number of advantages of having mobile websites. The first and foremost benefit is instant gratification and convenience for customers. Yes, it is true that a mobile website can be very fruitful for people now-a-days. In a web and media driven society where people are always busy, customers are increasingly eager to be entertained or stay informed, even on the move. A boring and monotonous places such as a ‘bus stop’ where people wait for public transport can now be entertaining, thanks to mobile websites that allow users to browse through their favorite websites, even when they are away from their desktops.
The most important factor to remember while designing and developing a mobile website is that it should be extremely user-friendly and compatible with multiple browsers and handsets.

Another advantage of having a mobile website is business promotion. For any kind of business promotion, having a mobile website is very important. Whenever there is a new marketing craze, there is a new way to promote your small business. The next plus point is keeping customers updated and engaged. Tiny mobile sites do just that! This makes potential customers return to a mobile website time and again for new and engaging updates, feeds and news. Through a mobile website, you can offer many lucrative deals that will help in promoting your products and services and help you create a niche for your business in the market. Mobile websites are the first essential step towards reaching out and being accessible to thousands of your target customers anytime, anywhere.

Two weeks back, at a very well organized networking event I met Kenneth D’Souza- The Founder/ CEO of Cristallo Media. It was basically a Fashion Show and an after party. The event was attended by a couple of international celebrities, media channels & hi-profiled business executives. Kenneth surely worked hard in managing the whole event which was quite reflective . There was something very fascinating about his personality which atleast i couldn’t resist and i couldn’t stop myself to set an appointment with Kenneth right there to meet him again for discovering some Candid Corners of his personality.

I was already impressed by the management skills of Kenneth, and when i met him again the way he started the conversation and answered my questions revealed the inborn talent of this young and charming personality. Kenneth discussed some of his personal and professional aspects of life during the discussion.

The interview started off with his childhood memories, my first question was very basic and random that if he had any vision for his life at that time. He pleasantly opened up the door of his childhood and answered “I believe I always had vision, just not as clear at that time. As a child you tend to absorb a lot of information at a very rapid pace, so having to specifically know what I wanted to achieve in life at that time was not really a concern, not as much as going out to play with friends.” On a question about the most interesting thing he has ever done, he told me “I have done a whole lot of interesting things, so I don’t really have a most interesting one. But off the top of my head, it would probably be the time, I went exploring & fishing at 3am in the winter in a Forest in Canada, and I didnt read a sign saying ‘Warning: Coyotes’.” For a quite long time i enjoyed listening about his adventures and admired the way he likes to spend his life. I also got to know that he loves watching movie, listening to music and exploring new things.

After a quick coffee break I continued asking him questions like tv show host. And he, with a big smile on his face continued to answer. I can’t stop myself without saying he’s a gem of a person. I asked about his interest in having extraordinary powers “I would like to have ability to be invisible, because just the thought of having no one able to see you standing in front of them, fascinates me,” he answered. We also inquired what his work is for him and he smilingly replied “Pure Passion. Money is secondary, I admit, I love money, but not enough to make it a priority in my life.” Just randomly and out of curiosity to know him more i asked him about his reaction when he is angry “Silence is golden. I avoid saying things when I am angry, because that’s not me talking, it’s my anger,” he said. He also shared his eating habits saying “I love food too much to really ever care about calorie count.” He also defined his self in one sentence that is “Success and nothing less.” While talking about success I asked his opinion about the ingredients of successful life “Family, Love and Being Loved, and doing what you really want to do. Money is always a nice little perk which I consider to be a part of success,” Kenneth added with a chuckle.

A couple of more questions helped me alot to unfold different aspects of his personalty. I can surely says that he is one of those people who always strive to get more and more from life, as he said “I have a long way to go to achieve what I perceive to be ‘life at its fullest’, and I have no intention of slowing down.”
Solsnet surely would like to wish him best of luck for his future endeavours as he is working on alot of new events and festivals.

Facebook has responded to reports of employers who insist on gaining complete access to prospective employees’ Facebook accounts. Users, the network said, shouldn’t be required to give up their logon info. Facebook warned employers that accessing a job seeker’s account under such conditions violates the network’s policies, infringes on the privacy of the user’s friends, and could expose the employer to legal risks.

Reacting to recent reports that some organizations are demanding that job seekers turn over their Facebook passwords, the social network on Friday criticized the practice for undermining members’ privacy expectations and security.

It also pointed out that such a move could expose employers who ask for passwords to dangerous liabilities and vowed to take action to protect the privacy and security of its users.

However, some observers have expressed skepticism about Facebook’s motivation.

For example, “Facebook has in the past not been the best custodian of the information entrusted to it by consumers, and they’ve gotten a black eye for many things they’ve done,” Paul Stephens, director of policy and advocacy at the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, told TechNewsWorld. “I believe this provides them with an opportunity to be the savior of privacy.”

However, John Simpson, consumer advocate at Consumer Watchdog, applauded Facebook’s action. “I am often critical of Facebook’s policies in many areas, particularly its all too often cavalier approach to users’ privacy,” he told TechNewsWorld. “They are completely correct here, and I support their position.”

What the Brouhaha’s About

Reports that some organizations and schools have been asking job seekers and students, respectively, for their Facebook passwords in order to closely monitor their social networking activities have made headlines recently.

For instance, Maryland’s Department of Corrections is reportedly asking job seekers to log into and scroll through their Facebook accounts so their interviewers can see what topics they post messages about and who their friends are.

Some schools are either requiring student athletes to give coaches or compliance officers a degree of access to their Facebook pages by “friending” them or turning to software from social media monitoring companies such as Varsity Monitor to monitor them.

The resulting outcry over these practices has led Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal to begin drawing up a bill to ban employers from asking job seekers for access to their private Facebook accounts.

“I support [Sen.] Blumenthal’s intention to explicitly outlaw the practice,” Consumer Watchdog’s Simpson said.

What Facebook Said

Facebook said users should never have to share their passwords, let anyone access their accounts, or do anything that might jeopardize the security of their accounts or violate the privacy of their friends.

It has made the sharing or soliciting of Facebook passwords a violation of its statement of rights.

Facebook also warns that employers may not have the proper policies and training to let reviewers handle private information, and that even if they do, they may have to assume liability for the protection of the information the reviewers have seen.

Further, Facebook pledged to take action to protect the privacy and security of its users, by engaging policymakers or initiating legal action.

Facebook representative Johanna Peace pointed TechNewsWorld to the company’s blog poston the issue in response to a request for further comment.

No Suspension of Disbelief

“Ironic would be an understatement,” Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, told TechNewsWorld regarding Facebook’s announcement about protecting users’ privacy. “It seems a classic example of do as I say, not as I do, especially coming close on the heels of the controversy earlier this week about Facebook changing its official language around what used to be its privacy policy.”

Facebook last week posted proposed changes to its Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, substituting the term “data use” for “privacy policy” in a move that has privacy advocates in the United States and the European Union up in arms.

“The elephant in the room here is Facebook’s coming IPO,” King continued. “I’ve … noticed a concerted effort to recast Mark Zuckerberg and company as mature, concerned leaders instead of the callow misfits [portrayed in the film] ‘The Social Network.’”

Facebook “gains nothing from this invasion of privacy, so it’s in its interest that this practice stop,” Justin Brookman, director of the consumer privacy project at the Center for Democracy and Technology, told TechNewsWorld.

The social networking giant’s privacy practices are also under scrutiny from the United States House of Representatives’ Energy and Commerce Committee. This body has written Facebook and 32 other iOS app developers asking about their information collection and use practices of social apps for Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) devices.

The most interesting thing in our lives is time. It gives us lesson to move on and never stop. This lesson is completely espoused by technology. There were times with no computers and internet, but with the passage of time technology progressed. Now the world is on our finger tips and tap of thumbs. With ever changing needs of life, needs of businesses also changed.

Now if you want to reach your actual and much bigger target market then you need greater platform like online marketing. We have several times talked why it is necessary for corporation to build their online identity and people are really aware of the reasons. So today we have decided to talk about the other side of picture.

Here we are talking about the breed called designers- They can belong to some firm or can be freelancer, facts remains same for both- It happens that sometimes web designers face complexity understanding the accurate requirement of client. This normally happens when clients feel confused about their requirement and the exact design they are looking for. And if design suffers then it tarnish the repute of web design service. Further in this blog, we will give some guidelines that can help out designers to grasp their clients in a better way.

First and foremost, feed in your mind that your clients also belong to planet earth. They will listen to you if you put a pinch of extra effort. Always tend to find out what client means by a good design. Definition of ‘good’ differs from client to client. Some people mean it as a fancy and alluring website whereas some people mean it as clean, simple and easy going website. Therefore, it is crucial to find out what they mean. To start with, you should discuss the project and the nature of business with the clients as clear as you can. The more you talk with the client and answer to questions, the more trust you will gain. Don’t always interrupt client but there are times when you need to give your opinion in polite manner.

For example: If client wants higher ranking on search engines and same time asking for a website that is backed by Flash then tell them Flash is not much appreciated by search engines and can harm their ranking. There are definitely few things which your client doesn’t know because they are not technically savvy but you are. So by using appropriate language and after gaining client’s trust, you can tell them about things that matters to the reputation of their business.

Most of the time you need to built an impression to the clients. It is not at all any hyperbole but winning the faith of your clients. Always inquire about the brass tacks of their business. You must have an idea about the dynamics of their work. If you already know about their business, tell them! It will make your clients take your design services with poise.

Another thing that is quite tricky to deal is the reaction of clients when you quote the price of your services. Normally it upsets them when they find the prices high. If you are going to cost a bit high, then you must make clear the kind of work and quality you are competent of delivering. In case it is your pricing strategy to cost low, then also give them surety that the value and quality of work will not be compromised.

Now come to the most important part. The Design. Check about the precedence of your clients. No matter you are designing a whole website or logo keep the preferences of your clients in mind. If they want a simple and clear design, then don’t overdesign. Similarly if some clients wants appealing, vivid and loud website, do it if it doesn’t harm their image and suit their business. In a few words, you should intend to determine client’s need. Being an expert it is up to you to adapt and amend their ideas to build a design which fulfill their needs. It is particularly imperative to be in touch with your client. As you progress with design, you should keep sending them blue prints. This will make your client happy and updated about your efforts. Always remember, the key to win the heart of clients is to know their behavior. Know your client and keep designing!
