Web Design: Some Must-Haves

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Besides a lush looking design, all small business websites need to have some must-have features. These must-haves will help connect to your prospects better and help you gain some trust and recognition from the market. While you work the diversified target market it is important to pay attention to how you seem when compared to competition. So, put yourself in a visitor’s spot and figure out whether you seem trustworthy enough to get some business online?

Firstly, put in your contact details on your website. It is amazing how a lot of people forget to add their contact details to their website. Add your address, phone number and email address. If you have a Skype or an IM id add that too. This will help prospects locate you better. Keep contact info readable and the contact page visible on home page.

On the “Contact Us” page also include a Google Map. This will help prospects learn more about your neighborhood and if they want to come down and meet with you they will know how to get there easily. If you are located in the prospects neighborhood, they will probably buy from you rather than going elsewhere.

Another must-have is a contact us form, where a prospect can leave information to follow up on. Most people feel a hassle calling up but will go ahead and leave some request at your contact us form. So, let your visitors express themselves when there is no one around to talk to.

When you want to seem reliable, adding a picture of yourself and your staff is always helpful. People like meeting real people on websites and this helps gain better trust. This will help kick-start a relationship with your prospects and give you a better face around faceless websites.

Lastly, including a Newsletter will help keep in touch with your visitors better. So, add a Newsletter sign up form on the home page, and keep users updated with the latest events/products and service enhancements.

Web New Buzz; HTML 5

Friday, May 21st, 2010

HTML5 is being developed as the next version of the web language standard with ability to replace Flash as the web’s default video player. It aims to reduce the need for proprietary based plug-in- rich internet application (RIA) technologies such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Sun JavaFX.

It promises to do everything that Flash does, from delivering videos and enabling superficial user interfaces to provide a platform to develop small downloadable applications without the need to download and install browser plug-in. This means that fewer complications on end user systems and less need for website owners to invest in RIA Applications.

HTML5 has much more features than just being a successor to flash. It provides a new set of features like native video and audio playback, animated graphics, geo-location, hardware acceleration for in-browser events etc designed to make modern web applications work more like desktop applications.

The capability to keep using a browser-based app even if your internet connection drops, the capacity to store application data on your local machine, dragging and dropping of files from the desktop to the browser, and the addition of semantic markup on pages, making easier for humans to understand.

Microsoft has been improving its degree of HTML 5 support in Internet Explorer, particularly in the new preview edition of IE 9. But, it could make implementation difficult through its current loom of only partially implementing HTML 5 support in IE, which is still the mostly widely used internet browser in the world. So let’s wait and watch for the HTML 5.

Choosing a domain name; dot com versus dot org, biz and info

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Picking a domain name for your new website is a very complex task; people are very particular when it comes to choosing a domain name, they will spend day’s thinking random words related to their website niche in order to come up with a unique and a catchy domain name.

Many prefer dot com domains over other extensions like dot net, org, biz or info. But there are good reasons to consider other domains besides the dot com one. For instance, you may not get the name you want for your website in the dot com domain but it is more likely that you get that name in other domains.

Another major reason is that most people don’t surf the web by typing in memorized domain names, they use search engines to find websites and they don’t really pay attention to the extension of the domain names.

The Dot org domain was originally for non-profit websites which is now also available for other websites and it gives off a more social, more community oriented connotation. Dot biz gives a professional sound to a domain name and Dot info gives the impression that the user will find a lot of information on the website.

The end of the line here is that there is good reason to consider other domain extensions, with the majority of web surfers using search engines to find the websites, coupled with the fact that dot org, info, biz domain extensions are more widely recognized and accepted.

E-Commerce

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Today, Internet has replaced the different modes of communications. The online books and information available on the Internet has opened the new horizon for the Internet technology and the concept of e-commerce is fast becoming advantageous in today’s fast moving and electronically-connected world. Most of the e-commerce websites on the internet are providing the best quality contents to their customers because their popularity is dependent on the demand of their customers and their information. So, if you are in retail than you cannot afford to be without a good e-commerce website.

What is E-Commerce?

E-commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services on the Internet between businesses, groups and individuals and can be seen as one of the essential activities of any business.

Benefits of E-Commerce applications

E-commerce offers buyers maximum convenience. They can visit multiple online stores round-the-clock any day to compare prices and make purchases, without having to leave their homes or offices from around the globe.

For sellers, e-commerce offers a way to cut costs and expand their global reach. They do not need to build staff, or maintain a physical store or print. Automated order tracking and billing systems cut additional labor costs. Their products or services are not limited to the physical location of a store. Internet technologies also permit sellers to track the interests and preferences of their customers and then use this information to build an ongoing relationship with the customer by customizing products and services to meet the customer’s needs.

How to build an E-Commerce website?

Building an e-commerce website can be frustrating if you have no experience. But it is not as complicated as it may seem. Just follow these simple steps:

1: Do Research about the product you want to sell.

2: Decide on how you’re going to ship your products. If you’re going to use a drop-shipping company, conduct research on which companies will be the best for you.

3: Choose and register a domain name

4: Decide on web hosting company

5: Create you website

6: Open a PayPal account

7: Upload your products and their pictures to your website. Create appropriate categories and sub-headings so your site is easily navigable and looks well organized.

8: Market your website, Use the top keywords you found for your products and use them throughout your website. You want to make sure your website ranks high when keyword searches are performed for your products.

Whether you are looking for a web hosting service, corporate website design and ecommerce, business to business ecommerce build and development, or more modest affordable e-commerce web site solutions, you still need to apply for the ecommerce golden rules. A good web development company will be able to help with these questions.

Web 2.0 Websites are the Norm

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

The past decade has brought many changes to the virtual world of web. And of those changes web 2.0 has evolved as a phenomenon which has brought multifarious changes on the face of web and paved a new path on how the future web portals would look like.

Before the advent of Web 2.0 World Wide Web primarily was limited to at the behest of a webmaster with information being shared as per the wishes and desires of the webmasters. Web 1.0 was more of an information sharing medium where a user logged on a website saw the details and logged off. There was no connection of any sort between the website webmaster and the end user who was utilizing the resources of the website.

This lacked the symbioses and therefore a webmaster didn’t get to know what the end user thinks about him and vice versa. A guest book utility was introduced later where the surfer could ink down his requests or share his thoughtful suggestions about the website.

Blogging boom and the You Tube age kick started the web 2.0 era where a user had the privilege of being heard by the webmasters and millions of other surfers. Blogging and Social Networking took the place of personal websites; RSS Feeds and Twitter were introduced to keep the viewers updated with latest happenings.

Wikipedia is one good example of an online encyclopedia which has left its contemporaries Britannica and Encarta behind because former is kept updated every day by millions of users across the globe, whereas, for the latter it takes time for an especially dedicated writer to upgrade the content.

Web 2.0 is the best rolling thing in the web market. Introduce a web 2.0 change in your website too!

Lighten up from boredom. . .

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Most people do not bother to read things that are full of text!! Too bad for the spirited writers because good writing skills are futile if the content is too lengthy for the reader to read.

Science says “Human mind has too many processes running simultaneously which denigrate thoughts and processes that are not so creative”. Just imagine if you are assigned to describe a lengthy process of how your company generates revenue, what profits current fiscal year have borne, company strategy for the next fiscal year et cetera.  How are you going to explain every single detail? Does it guarantee a focused attention from your audiences?

That is where our creativity comes to your rescue. Whether be it your website, your presentations, annual reports, e-learning projects or anything else, leave the impact that counts. On the web you have less time to impress your prospective clients.

Macromedia Flash is the best tool to add dynamism to your site. If you are a pharmaceutical company you can create indicative animations on how a medicine produces better results. This is not limited to just one thing; a flash animation can be used in multiple other illustrations.

Flash animations can be used in a lot of ways. You can use these in header banners, sales buttons and if you want you can build your entire website in Flash. Animations multiply your options of creating a lasting impact but most of the webmasters have to-date not recognized the importance of Flash animations. They still like to go the orthodox way.

Flash Animations have become a driving phenomenon of catching attention of the visitors and keeping them glued to your web page. You can get nothing better than Flash animations to hold a visitor to your website. Add exciting intros with appealing sound tracks that mesmerize your visitors.
